Ep 65: Alligators in New York
Have you ever taken a trip to Florida, bought a baby alligator as a souvenir, taken it home to your apartment in New York and suddenly realize it was not an adequate pet? Probably not, but that is something that was going on in the early 1900s. When the alligator would out live it’s welcome it’s said that people were flushing them down their toilets where they grew up in the sewers evolving to be albino giants. Join us on the 65th episode as Amy tells Samm all about alligators in the sewers of New York City.
Ep 62: Isla De Munecas
17 miles south of Mexico City is a small island, no larger than a football field, that has been collecting dolls since the 1950s. Isla De Munecas actually translates into Doll Island and is called The Island of the Dolls by English speaking people. Don Julian Santana Barrera claimed to have witnessed a small girl drown in the canal that surrounds the island and depending on which version you hear, it’s either to appease the little girl’s spirit, protect the little girl from demons in the after life, or honor her. Listen in to the 62nd episode of Legend as Samm and Amy discuss possible theories as to why Don Julian ended up amassing over 1,000 dolls on this island before his tragic and somewhat mysterious death in 2001. Is the island evil or is it simply a shrine created for a life lost too soon?
Ep 60: Lizzie Borden
On the 60th episode of Legend, listen as Samm and Amy discuss the fascinating case of Lizzie Borden and the murders of her father Andrew Borden and step mother Abby Borden. Although the rhyme would have us believe that Lizzie delivered a whooping total of 81 whacks with an ax, the reality, although no less gruesome was a total of 28 and there is no conclusive evidence that Lizzie ever actually delivered the fatal blows. It’s a plain ole case of “who done it?”
Ep 59: Kidney Heist
Picture this: You are traveling on business, you go to get a drink before bed and someone slips a nice little roofie into your drink. When you wake up you are in a bath tub filled with ice with a little note laying next to you saying that if you want to live you should probably call 911. How freaking scared are you?! In the 59th episode of Legend Amy tells Samm all about the urban legend surrounding kidney jacking. Where it might of come from, how it evolved and some real life stories!
Ep 58: Dog Boy
On episode 58 of Legend Samm and Amy discuss two different urban legends referred to as Dog Boy. The first is based off of a true crime case located in the small town of Quitman, Arkansas. Jarrell (A.K.A. Gerald) Bettis was a monstrous animal abuser whose horrible habit of collecting cats and dogs got him the moniker “Dog Boy.” He moved on from torturing and murdering animals to abusing his parents, locking them up in the attic for long periods of time. Eventually he died in jail from a drug over dose but his spirit it said to linger in the quaint house located on 65 Mulberry Lane. In the second story we discuss the more cryptid based urban legend from Shenango Valley, Pennsylvania. Listen in as we discuss Margie Lytles’ harrowing close encounter with the half man half dog creature who may or may have not been summoned by witches.
Ep 56: Denver International Airport
The largest airport in America has quite a few surprises hiding within it. There are hidden underground buildings and tunnels that may or may not stretch for miles, hidden messages about a possible apocalyptic event from The New World Order or even the Illuminati, and maybe even lizard people and aliens! DIA takes this all in stride however and even pokes fun at all the incredible theories surrounding them. On episode 56 listen in as Samm and Amy go over all the theories, no matter how farfetched, and decide for yourselves if something weird is going on in Colorado.
Ep 54: Men in Black
Will Smith may be what initially comes to mind when you think of the Men In Black and the movie depiction wasn’t far off… except instead of using futuristic flashing memory wiping devices, they used malice, threats, and violence. If you’ve seen an UFO make sure, you better watch your back. On Legend’s 54th episode listen in as Samm and Amy talk about the origin story for the Men in Black.
Ep 51: Kuldhara & Bhangarh
Does the idea of a village vanishing in one night give you the creeps? Well, maybe it’s the reason they vanished that should creep you out. On episode 51 of Legend Amy tells Samm the stories surrounding the disappearance of Kuldhara, a village in Jaisalmer, India and Bhangarh, a fort on the other side o Jaisalmer. Did the people of Kuldhara just not want to pay a hefty tax or did something darker happen? And in Bhangarh did they just move on to another settlement or succumb to a brutal curse?
Ep 46: Melonheads
When a group of children suffering from hydrocephalus rebel, you better be careful, otherwise, you just might end up in their crosshairs. Just ask Dr. Crow(e). Well, kind of. You see… most Melonheads aren’t actually believed to be a threat and are quite frequently noted for their “docile” behavior. Even still… there are a handful of stories that say they rather like the taste of teenaged flesh, so you may want to watch out! Listen as Samm and Amy discuss the many variations of the Melonhead legend on the 46th episode of Legend.
Ep 43: Black Ambulance
A priest, some nuns, a jew, satanist, and a vampire are kidnapping children in Poland using a Black Volga. But are they really? Listen to the 43rd episode of Legend as Amy tells Samm about the crazy cover story for missing children post WWII. Then travel to Romania, Italy, and Mexico where a legend turns tragic when social media gets a hold of it.
Ep 37: Bloody Mary
Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary! Oh right, need to say that in front of a dimly lit mirror, we can try again later. For now you should listen to episode 37 to find out just who you may be summoning up. Is she a queen, a witch, or an unfortunate car accident victim?
